Repair, Upgrades, and Hardware Diagnostics

Hardware repair on MacBooks, PC laptops, iMacs, desktops, and gaming computers. Common services we service are screens, batteries, storage, RAM, cooling, OS recovery, and custom builds.

Logic-board failures require further diagnostics, please see our Board-Level Diagnostics page for more information.

Data recovery or password assistance, please refer over to our Data Recovery  page for more information.

Issues We Handle

Common Symptoms:
– No power
– Slow performance
– Overheating
– Cracked Screen
– Dead Battery
– Failed Storage
– USB or Charging Ports not working
– Liquid Damage

Each symptom maps to specific parts or systems – power circuits, the board, storage media, cooling, display assembly, or the operating system.

Laptops, Desktops, iMacs, and Gaming Computers

Here’s a list of a few devices and services we provide: please inquire for unlisted devices/services, or contact us!

MacBooks: Air and Pro, Intel and Apple Silicon
Services: Battery, charging, screen, keyboard, and OS recovery work

PC Laptops: Windows laptops from Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, HP, and others.
Services: Screen, battery,  charging port, storage, RAM, and OS reinstall

Gaming Laptops: ASUS ROG, MSI, Razer, Alienware, and others.
Services: Higher thermal load and dedicated GPUs change what fails first. Cooling and thermal work is more frequent for these devices.

Desktops: Towers, small-form-factor, and pre-built.
Services: Component swaps, storage and RAM upgrades, GPU work, and OS reinstall

iMacs: All-in-one design limits some upgrades but doesn’t block storage
Services: RAM on supported models, fan services, or OS recovery

Custom Builds: Part-supplied builds and ground-up builds. Compatibility, assembly, BIOS, and OS install.

Upgrades and Custom Builds

SSD Upgrades: Replacing slow or full storage with larger SSDs on laptops  and desktops. The OS and files migrate to the new drive.

RAM Upgrades: Capacity increases on supported machines. Many thin laptops and current MacBooks have soldered RAM and cannot be upgraded. We check before you comit.

GPU Upgrades: Adding or replacing dedicated graphics cards in desktops. Power supply and case compatibility checked first.

Custom Builds: Part-supplied or ground-up. Compatibility, assembly, BIOS configuration, OS install, and basic stress testing before pickup.

Quotes go out before parts are ordered. No work starts until you approve.

Performance, Cooling, and Stability

Computers that crash, throttle, or run hot rarely have one obvious failure. The cause is usually thermal – dust in the fans, degraded thermal paste, clogged vents, or a failing cooling fan.

Fan Cleaning and Thermal Paste Replacement – The system is opened, cleaned, repasted, and reassembled. Common cause of slowdown in aging laptops.

Crash and Instability Diagnosis: Stress testing under load to identify the failing component – RAM, GPU, power delivery, or thermal limits.

Throttling Diagnosis: Confirming whether slow performance is thermal, hardware, software, or a combination.

When the cause is the board itself — bad capacitors, VRM failure, or trace damage — the machine moves to Board-Level Diagnostics.

When Data or Logic-Board Work Is Needed

If the priority is recovering files from a failing drive, a locked account, or a system that will not boot, the work starts with Data Recovery – not repair. Attempting repair before recovery can overwrite or destroy data. Recovery first; repair second, if the machine is worth the fix.

If the symptoms point to a board-level failure – total power loss after liquid damage, dead charging circuits, failed traces, or surface-mount component damage – the work moves to Board-Level Diagnostics. That’s a different kind of repair: circuit and trace work at the component level, not part swapping.

Yes. MiraFixit works on MacBooks, PC laptops, iMacs, desktops, and gaming computers.

Yes. MiraFixit handles custom builds, upgrades, part installation, cooling, stability issues, and hardware checks. Quotes go out before parts are ordered.

Often, yes. SSD and RAM upgrades, cooling improvements, and storage changes can extend the life of a computer when the rest of the system is still worth keeping.

Yes. No-power issues can come from batteries, chargers, storage, power circuits, logic-boards, or other hardware faults. If the cause points deeper into the board, MiraFixit may recommend Board-Level Diagnostics.

Yes. Overheating usually comes from dust buildup, fan issues, dried thermal paste, poor airflow, or failing hardware. MiraFixit inspects the system before recommending repair.

Yes. MiraFixit handles OS recovery, startup issues, corrupted systems, and reinstall work. If your files are important, data recovery may come before repair.

That depends on the age, condition, part cost, and what the computer is used for. MiraFixit gives a practical recommendation before work begins.
